I've Got Your Back!!

I found this cute little vellum quote in my scrapbook stash and came up with the idea for an even cuter card.  The elephant and mouse were cut using my Cricut Animal Kingdom cartridge.  The palm trees came from the Stretch Your Imagination cartridge. The preprinted background paper, of the rain shower and umbrella, came from the DCWV Flower Shower Spring Stack. The rest of the card uses designs from this same stack.  I used some little plastic beads from Fashion Glass to create the coconuts for my palm trees.  I also gave my elephant a pair of googly eyes.  The vellum quote was from Best Occasions.  I finished this card up by adding a little glitz with clear Stickles on my raindrops and around the quote and on my elephant.   I dressed up my umbrella with some pink Stickles.  Have a great week!!

Happy Birthday to My Favorite Cowboy!!

My husband's birthday is this week and he is the ultimate cowboy.  He has the Stetsons, the Wranglers, the boots, you name it!! So I think he'll like this card!

I started with background paper from the Paper Studio and adhered it to a plain, white, standard-size card.  Using my Cricut Old West cartridge, I cut the letters at one inch.  I then cut the centerpiece with black cardstock at 3 inches and white cardstock at 2 inches.  I embossed them with my Cuttlebug embossing folder.  I cut the horse at 3 inches and embossed him using a different folder.  I cut background rectangle strips in black and white and topped them with a piece of ribbon from the Paper Studio.  I used a couple of black and silver brads, from Recollections, on each side of the centerpiece.  I then tied a cute little jute bow and adhered it with Glue Dots.  To finish up the card I added a small silver brad, from Colorbok, to each corner of the card.  This was a fairly simple and quick card to put together, but I'm sure it'll make my favorite cowpoke proud!

Happy Birthday to My Mr. Fix-It!!

This has been a busy past few weeks for me and my husband.  We have been doing major home repairs and my husband even chose to take a week of vacation to work on our house.  His birthday is next week, so I thought this card would be very appropriate.  I used paper from the Premium Photo stack from DCWV and layered it on black cardstock.  I then used my Everyday Paper Dolls Cricut cartridge to cut my little Mr. Fix-It.  He, his little overalls, and hat are cut at five inches.  I antiqued the overalls a bit by coloring them with my Copic markers and then spraying them with frost Shimmer spray.  I crafted his little tool belt and shoes from some real leather scraps (my husband's hobby is leather-working and stamping).  I used a little bit of ribbon to create his handkerchief.  The sign was created from the Camp Out Cricut cartridge and the lettering for "Mr. Fix-It" is from the Printing 101 cartridge. I accented the card using my white Gelly Roll pen. I used some "screw" brads in each corner from the Paper Studio and my little heart was formed with my Fiskars punch.  I think my Mr Fix-It will be very happy with his birthday card

Making Up For Lost Blog Time!!

I must apologize!! I didn't realize that it had been almost a month since my last post!  I've only been out of school for one week and boy have I been busy!  My husband and I continue to make repairs to our home (termite damage last fall).  It was a huge mess, but at least I am getting a beautiful, new stone fireplace out of the deal.  As my husband continues to lay the stone, I have stripped, and I am now in the process of restaining our log home.  I did take some time out last night to whip up a few easy cards though! 

I found a clearance bargain on a couple of Brenda Walton DCWV mat stacks that I couldn't pass up.  These papers make beautiful nature-themed card backgrounds.  I used them on the "friendship" card and the "count your blessings" card.  The embellishments are also from DCWV.  I used my cricut border punch on the "count your blessings" card.  The phrase for the front of this card is actually a clear sticker from Stampabilities.  The butterfly embellishment is from Studio 112.  I used ribbon found in the dollar bin at Michael's to create matching bows for each of the cards.

The other card was created using a wonderful rubber stamp I purchased from eBay.  My brother-in-law is an avid wild turkey hunter and he has an upcoming July birthday.  I stamped a piece of ivory paper with the wild gobbler and then colored it with my watercolor pencils.  I adhered the stamped image to a piece of orange patterned paper from the Great Outdoors stack from atd.  Both were then attached to a piece of heavy brown cardstock using square metal brads from Recollections. I used Glue Dots to adhere everything to a plain ivory card.  I found the stamp birthday sentiment in the dollar bin at Michael's too!  I finished the card off with a matching brown bow.  I think my brother-in-law will be very proud of his card!

A "Deer" Mother's Day Card: Using Fabric to Make Card

I've already given my mom one Mother's Day card, but I don't think she'll mind receiving another!  I was playing around at my craft table this afternoon when I came across a fabric remnant I had used in a lap quilt several months back.  You may recognize the fabric if you have visited the fabric craft page of my blog.  I decided to cut out a scrap and see how it would work on a card.  I ran the fabric square through my Xyron sticker machine and then adhered it to a piece of layered cardstock. I used a nice evergreen tree pattern from the atd Great Outdoors Scrapbook Kit as the background for the rest of the card.  I added some brown ribbon from my scrap drawer and then attached some tiny bronze brads from Recollections.  I accented the other side of the card with a metal tree from Darice's Rustic Accents and glitzy brown stickers from K & Company.  The card was put together using Glue Dots. I think the fabric piece made a nice card.  Hope everyone has a wonderful Mother's Day!

Mother's Day Cards with Wild Mountain Ivy and Dogwood Blossoms



I've incorporated some of my recent photographs into cards again.  My mother just loves what she calls "mountain ivy".  She is quick to correct me that it's not "laurel" it's "ivy".  Mountain laurel blooms later in May she is quick to explain and grows on a much taller, woody bush.  The road leading to my little cabin is just loaded with mountain ivy, so I snapped some shots and included one in a card for my mom.  I also created an additional card for a friend with a recently taken photograph of mountain dogwood blossoms. 

The wild mountain ivy card uses distressed maroon background paper from the Wild Asparagus collection by My Mind's Eye.  I also used a frame from the Cricut Spring Holiday Cards cartridge, cut at six inches, using forest trees paper from the atd Great Outdoors Scrapbook Kit.  I used olive green cardstock to cut out the word "Mom" using my Cricut Mother's Day 2010 cartridge.  I highlighted the word with some pink glitter glue found in that wonderful dollar bin at Michael's. I had a little scrap of shear, maroon ribbon that I thought matched this card perfectly.  I think mom will really like this card.

The second card uses a light pink cardstock as the background and includes an overlay from K&Company, from the Susan Winget collection.  I just love these overlays.  They come with pre-punched borders and contain such beautiful nature-themed designs.  I adhered my picture with pale pink brads and added a nice brown bow.  I, again, cut the word "Mom" from my Cricut Mother's Day 2010 cartridge using a brown shadow and pink overlay.  I just love how the birds and nests in the background accent the photograph of the dogwood blossoms.

A Morning of Making Cardstock Flowers with Mom...plus a Mother's Day Card...without Mom!!

This morning I showed my mom how to make cardstock flowers.  We used the Cricut Mother's Day Bouquet cartridge and paper from Me & My Big Ideas Specialty Cardstock and Pressed Petals Tropical Life cardstock pack.  The flowers were cut ranging in size from 3-5 inches and glued together using a hot glue gun.  We then added floral wire stems.  I plan to make more of these to decorate for Memorial Day at the cemetery were my grandparents are buried....as it is tradition in the south to decorate the cemetery on what we call "Decoration Day".  I have a link on an earlier blog (see archive: February) to a YouTube video that demonstrates how to make these flowers. 

This weekend, I also created a Mother's Day card.  I found these nice, little, chipboard embellishments appropriate for Mother's Day (they came from a seasonal chipboard collection that can be found at Hobby Lobby).  I used layered red cardstock with print cardstock from the Wild Asparagus pad from My Mind's Eye.  I used a scrap of brown ribbon from a box of chocolates I had received as a recent gift and I also glitzed up the card with some red sequins.  I used the Cricut Spring Holiday Cards cartridge to cut the background for the card (cut at 6 inches) and I also made small 2 inch and 2.5 inch backgrounds and layered them for my "Wishing You A Very" embellishments.  I finished the card off with some matching brown, metal brads.....Hope you like the card and the flowers.....now I am off to eat lunch with mom.
